Requirements for the Degree of Philosopher

All classes taken at this level must be intermediate level or above.

• RUGA Prior Degree

Prior Degree must be in the same specialty area as the Philosopher Degree being sought.

• 5 Classes in Specialty Area

These must be in the same specialty area as the classes taken at the Lector and Prior levels. Only classes in this specialty area will count towards this requirement.

• 2 Independent Study Projects

See Lector requirements for project choices. No substitutions may be made at this level.

• 5 Service Hours in Teaching

One class hour equals one service hour. All classes taught should be in the student’s specialty area, and must be intermediate level or above. Students are encouraged to teach at least two different classes to fulfill this requirement, rather than teaching the same class 5 times.

• 3 Elective Service Hours*

See Prior requirements for service choices. Specific Colleges may allow other kinds of service to be substituted for this requirement. If this is the case, the allowable substitutions will be listed in the specific degree requirements for each College. If electing Service Hours in teaching, all classes taught must be intermediate level or above.

*Students may substitute one additional Independent Study Project OR 3 extra elective classes for this requirement.
